A driving licence is sometimes required for work purposes. Having a licence does not mean owning a car here …      :)

For those who are asking why we can convert our licences, you may want to find out more about the reciprocal recognition of Singapore driving licences in other countries…   :)

1) Must pass Basic Theory Test (BTT) first

I subscribed to  http://www.singaporetests.com, did the practices there and it really helped. Sometimes the portal is down though. No, I'm not paid to advertise for them.

2) I went to Bukit Batok Driving Centre (Traffic Police Counter at Level 2), application must be made in person. You can also go to ComfortDelGro at Ubi or S'pore Safety Driving Centre at Woodlands. Traffic Police have your BTT results so no need for printout.

3) Bring BOTH originals and photocopies of :

  • Passport

  • Entry Permit (LATEST and your very FIRST re-entry permit, yes even if it means digging it out from more than 10 yrs ago )

  • Your M'sia driving licence (bring the latest and all your old expired driving licence)

  • An extract of driving licence record from the JPJ (indicating the date of first issue of the MY licence and all your driving offences if any) - REMEMBER to get it stamped and signed by JPJ to prove that it is a SALINAN ASAL (SG Traffic Police requires this). Official receipt required too. Document cannot be more than 6 months old.

JPJ (JB -UTC) would ask you why you need the record and they will tell you to go to Taman Daya? if you're doing conversion. They will say that you will get blacklisted. Not sure about other JPJ branches.

Remember to dress according to the M'sia government dress code for government offices i.e. no shorts, slippers… basically cover up

The record extracted by JPJ UTC (need to pay RM10) will still be considered by the Traffic Police here if you're able to prove that you obtain your licence before you got your EP/DEP/WP/PR/SPR. So need to bring all your past expired licence.

Otherwise you may want to make a trip to Traffic Police counter here first. They will show you the document to get from JPJ.
  • A recent coloured passport size photograph (any sg photo studio should know what is required for sg driving licence)
  • For applicants above 65 years and above, need a completed medical examination form (from Traffic Police / any of the test centers)

  • Pay SG$50 (NETS, no cash)

  • If your application is approved, you will get a temporary licence on the spot. The actual licence will be sent to you by post within a week.

Good Luck!
Hope this information is useful to you:)
